In this guide, I’ll walk you through what LED lash extensions really are, how they work, and what to expect, based on my own experience running this service at our Brisbane salon.

The first thing to understand is this:
LED lash extensions use a special glue that hardens instantly when exposed to LED light.

① What does “curing with LED” actually mean?
Once you try LED lash extensions, you’ll instantly notice two things: speed and confidence in the outcome.
LED lash glue is specially designed to cure instantly under a specific range of light, typically between 365–405 nm. The glue polymerises in response to the light, creating a strong and clean bond in just seconds.

② Is LED light the same as UV? What about the impact on skin?

“Isn’t LED the same as UV? Is it safe around the eyes?”

- LED light used for lash extensions emits very little UV-B or UV-C. Traditional UV lamps emit a broader spectrum, some of which can damage the skin. LED devices target only the required wavelengths, making them far gentler.

This is one of the biggest advantages. Unlike traditional glue that’s sensitive to humidity and temperature, LED glue cures fully within seconds, no matter the conditions.

② Faster Application Time
LED curing reduces many salon frustrations, like adjusting room humidity or waiting for glue to set. With a 2–3 second curing time per lash, treatments can be up to 15 minutes shorter.
③ Less Irritation for Sensitive Clients
Because glue cures instantly, fumes are reduced, leading to fewer complaints of discomfort. We’ve seen clients with previous mild sensitivity continue lashes comfortably with LED.

Drawbacks to Consider
① Slightly Higher Price
LED sets can be priced a little higher than traditional sets at some salons, reflecting the equipment and glue involved. Given the retention and comfort benefits, most clients find it worth the difference.
⚠️ Not suitable for clients with UV sensitivity. Always ask during consultation.
② Allergy Risk Still Exists
Unless specifically labelled as cyanoacrylate-free, most LED lash glues do contain cyanoacrylate, so allergies are still possible. Patch testing and client education remain essential.
Who Benefits Most From LED Lashes?
If your lash extensions never seem to last, especially if you have oily skin, hooded lids, or you sweat and swim often, LED glue can make a noticeable difference in retention.
Even if you don’t have a full allergy, but you’ve felt slight discomfort or irritation with traditional glue before, LED may be worth trying. Several of our clients have told us their eyes felt much more comfortable after switching.
LED extensions generally hold better than traditional glue, but your natural lash cycle still applies. Infills every 3 weeks are still recommended, just like with regular lash glue.
If it’s your first time, or you have a big event coming up, we recommend a patch test before your appointment and letting us know about any past reactions during your consultation. There’s no 8-hour drying window to plan around either, and the glue is oil-proof from the moment it cures.
